still getting used to this blog format- I hope to learn how to post new information. I hope this works!

Betsy came to trim Huey today- he did great with the help of Justin holding his front legs- we didn't have time or think it was necessary to attempt the back feet at this point- the horse was stressed enough in one day to do the front.
Quite a bit of toe was taken down and alot of dead tissue on the sole and frog was carved out. We took photos for Betsy's website so she can use his feet as a before/after example. Betsy feels he should come out of this just fine and 100% sound. The angle on new hoof growth needs to grow out and it should take about a full year to accomplish that. In the meantime we will continue with regular barefoot trimming and thrush tx. and hand walking for circulation.
His open hole of the front of the right hoof was also gouged out further to allow the healing effects of direct air and sunshine on the area. Huey seemed to appreciate that we knew what we were doing and complied for the most part. I think we will see dramatic changes immediately in his comfort level.
